What is a Destination Wedding?

Destination weddings don't necessarily mean a wedding out of the country. Couples today are more transient. They may not live in the same location as their parents. A destination wedding is basically a wedding not in your home city.

There are numerous locations available for weddings. Some couples try to choose a place that is centrally located for their families and guests. Beach weddings are a popular choice. For your "wedding weekend", look for the convenience of a single location with lots of activities and multiple venue options.

When choosing to have a destination wedding, keep in the mind the following:
  • Even though the ceremony is the main event, keep in mind that people will begin arriving a day or before the event. Having a welcome bag in their hotel rooms can provide the guests with a list of local activities, attractions, and restaurants.
  • Select a place for guests to meet, greet, and mingle the night before the wedding.
  • Consider a full-service resort. This is convenient for the guests who fly and may not have transportation.

A wedding planner is crucial in putting together a destination wedding. They will work with the event coordinator at the venue sites and coordinate all the vendors, delivery of items, and be your "go to" person for all questions.
