Finding the perfect dress

“Saying Yes to the Dress”
My favorite wedding reality show is “Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta”. I lived in the Atlanta area for over 25 years and I feel a special bond with the show and I love to hear Lori and Monty’s opinions.
Watching this show teaches brides a valuable lesson: Do not take an entourage with you when picking out your dress! Sure it’s fun to have everyone together and include them in all the details of your wedding. But, if you take your mother, sisters, future mother-in-law, future sisters-in-law, maid of honor and all your bridesmaids (you get the picture), you are going to have that many different opinions. Even though they have your best interests in mind, as the appointment progresses, their likes and dislikes begin to override what you want. Your day together is suddenly not fun anymore.
Here are some things to think about:
  •  If you and your mother have a good relationship, consider just taking her with you. She has dreamed of this day since you were born. It is a special bonding time between you and your mother.
  • Take only one or two people. Pick someone who has the same tastes as you. What you are really looking for is someone who knows your likes and dislikes and will be honest in telling you how you look.
  • Do not take your finance’. Let your dress be a surprise for him. Plus, he will probably get bored with all the dress talk.
  • Try on dresses in various shades. Wedding dresses come in several different shades of white. You will be surprised how your skin tone will look different in a white dress compared to a diamond white.
Picking out your bridal gown can be very stressful. I remember going with my daughter. Her concern was that she would try on hundreds of dresses and none of them would give her that “this is the one” moment. Upon visiting a bridal shop, we found the dress, but the color didn’t look right with my daughter’s fair skin. The dress gave her a “washed out” look. Several weeks later, we visited another bridal shop. She tried on the same dress but in a different shade of white. When she came out to the runway, it took our breath away! She glowed!
The dress for you is out there. Listen to your heart and you will find the perfect dress.
